Summer Solstice: This is a
similar celebration to the Winter solstice, where it is a weeklong event, compared
to the Winter festival that is only three days long. Four of the day are spent
on two events the first is the grand hunt, which is to bring back a couple of
large boars for the three-day feast, the other two days before the hunt are a
show case of strength and endurance amongst the men in hopes of earning
Zerovan’s favor for the coming year. These displays include things like
wrestling, spear throwing, knife throwing, melee combat with wooden swords and
shields. Often times this is when many men try to win the hearts of the ladies
in the village. Music is played on heavy deerskin drums and a honey based ale
is prepared for the festival. Children too receive gifts but usually they are
carved wooden symbols of their house, or candies. A death during the festival,
caused other than the Gods calling them home, is an ill omen and is believed to
be a sign of Zerovan’s anger.
·
Kinz-Zure: Is the male
version of the Frau-Zure. Men spend a few days in the holy temple (or in the
shrine at Shivering cliff) and pray, tell stories, and hand craft stone idols
of bears to place before their homes. The old Bear stone are then tossed in the
sea as an offering to Craegnox. Any Boy how is old enough to competently hold a
sword or axe has earned his right to partake in the celebration. Any boys too
young are tasked with throwing the bears in the sea, and helping their mothers
at home, this often occurs mid spring before the great hunts.

the gods is seen only in regard honorable. The child must be old enough to walk
and speak. Zerovan accepts this gift for he too has but one child he loves
dearly.

principle.

Sacred
Objects: The Azurite Stone also known as Azure. Furs. Small bones.
The five greatest Queens of Ib, and their Histories
Daphnosi Bane A.K.A The Lightbearer: She is the first Matriarch of the Bane Family Line to rule as Queen, her father and grandfather kings before her. of here three brother she proved to be the most worthy, out living all three and proving she was of a higher calling. Daphnosi is well known as the light of winter or Light bearer a title earned when a terrible blizzard threatened to bring the Isle of Ib to its knees. she brought as many people as she could into the walls of the castle, rich and mighty weak and poor. she and her family did not eat until the others were fed, she nearly died of starvation. When the storm passed, she alone wandered out to see the damage bearing the last lamp they had, only to return with news of the village’s safety and saving her people from starvation.
Farline Bane: A.K.A Forebringer: The second queen of Ib and rumored to be the most beautiful queen that ever reigned. she was smart and talented and raised the current and still standing royal castle named Stragdrill. after her home was burned to the ground in a fight for the throne she erected the castle in exchange for her hand in marriage. The castle is said to be blessed by the Azureckt gods and is made of eerie blue and black stones.
Zaelle Bane: A.K.A The Just: third Queen of Ib and the most politically sound ruler. Zaelle was fair minded and well loved for her mercy and justice which was dealt with by trials. Zaelle was rumored to have a beautiful smile but rarely did so, only smiling on her wedding day and the day her heirs were born. She is also credited with the now infamous Bane eye brow, which is a eyebrow lift and face that is highly common among the genetic line, as they are able to lift it rather high into their brow line. She had Eyes of the most haunting blue.
Raine Bane: A.K.A The Noble: The fourth queen and only twin Queen known to the Bane family line she was one of the sternest and heavy handed rulers to ever rule. though she was not hated many found her to be over bearing, though this aggressive nature is what has kept Ib protected from the Shadow binders who threaten their extinction every year. Raine is the less beautiful of the sisters, she was also known to be more out spoken. she was Born but a few minuets before her twin sister Skayne, she had three daughters, two of which who rule Ib present day.
Daphne Bane: A.K.A The Brave: Daphne is the fifth and present Queen of Ib living in Westeros. Her sister Icella rules as regent in Ib. Daphne earned her title the brave at a young age, gifted to her by the people of Ib for her valor in battle to restore the Silver Queen to the throne. as a young woman Daphne fought viciously on the battlefields in Westeros, and in Ib against the Shadow binders. She is the only queen to have more then three children and to have ever left Ib/Ibben.
Rowgrayn The founder: Rowgrayn is the First Bane in recorded History of their line, not many records were kept during his reign and most we know of him is of legends and stories. He was said to be massive, broad shoulders legs thick as tree stumps arms wide and powerful and he wore armor that took two men to lift off him. yet he was renowned for his grace and power in battle. He over threw the King of Ib, challenging the former king in a death match after working his way up from a scout in the then, little clan. Rowgrayn set the standard for the Bane line being wise, just, fierce, merciful, savage, and beloved. His rule was so perfect and needed that his throne was not challenged but once later down in the line. a Fearsome man of few words, he chose the banner and beast that is still known to the Bane family. His son would be the Last Ruling Bane King, after which the women of Bane became the matriarchal rulers. Rowyn the current heir and Princess of Ib is named after him.
Faydro Bane The Fierce: The eldest brother of the line of Bane heroes. He was Farline Bane’s brother and a legendary hero of Bane. described as the greatest fighter Ib has ever known. Not much of his is really known other then his glory on the battle field in the war of thirty sun in which he lead the charge and took the head of the enemies leader. He would marry a young maid and leave Ib, legend says he simply ascended to Azureckt as Zerovan in the flesh, other say he merely died of old age in a remote part of the Island. none of it is true or false, currently no one has claimed to be Bane of his decent and he remains an untouched and revered hero. He was also known as the one year King, when he ruled in Farline’s place during her pregnancy and a few months after her first child was born, for she was bed ridden from a difficult birth.
Hayrd Bane The Wise: The youngest Brother in the line of Bane heroes. He was Farline Bane’s baby brother and the only Bane male to ever not marry. He was said to be the wisest man to ever been born, whether this is true is up for debate, but his intelligence is revered in Ib. He took a vow of Chasity and became the high priest of the Azureckt Faith. Living in the temple and was the only man ever to be accepted as a priest as it is a mostly female held position. Hayrd, was rumored to have been in love with his elder sister but took his vows when she married her savage husband. Unlike Westeros, Ib does not frown on Incest or homosexuality though not a very common practice, some families have married in themselves for centuries. Hayrd was said to speak in a soft and hushed voice.
Warger Bane The Hammer: Warger Bane is not a hero of the Bane line but is still a legendary man though admittedly not for the best reasons. Warger was the husband of Farline Bane, due to an agreement and arranged marriage. Warger was a Carpenter’s son and a fisherman working on the whaling boats for most of his life. His father helped build the Castle on the grounds his son would marry Farline. Warger was renown for his savage and foul temper, rumored to be the source of the Bane’s Berserker trait and one of the most feared men Ib had ever known. Farline seemed to be the only person safe from his rages and the only person to quell his temper when flared. Warger was only ever seen in three places, the Battlefield, The temple, or in Farline’s bed. He was not a social man and often times people forgot about him until he went berserk. His rage is still heavy in the genetic line of the Bane family and glimpse can be seen in Thorne, Rowyn and Ashe Bane, this is why their anger is feared.
Cedric Bane The Brave: the only Ib “king” to share the same title as his wife. Cedric is from a long and noble line called Joth. He married his Wife Daphne Bane, current Queen of Ib, when they were young teenagers. He has been one of the most well liked men to sit next to the throne. he is wise and fair minded admittedly much softer then his wife. he however is not someone to snub for he is a gifted fighter and dangerous strategist. Cedric’s honesty and loyalty would earn him the same title as his wife years later on the battlefield. He and his wife are not very much alike but they are very much in love and they balance each other out. sadly the Joth line is dying out with one unmarried brother a year younger then him there is no chance for Joth to carry on. Cedric is famous for his roles in the battles of Blood River and Dragon’s gate. Cedric lead Ibbenesse troops through out the Riverlands nearly being drowned in the river outside of Riverrun. Claiming Riverrun and restoring it to Tully rule. he would also lead the charge on Dragon’s gate along side his wife. these events leading to the Riverlands, and Westerlands as well as the vale bending the knee. shortly after Daenerys Targaryen would retake the capitol leaving the throne in his and Daphne’s hands until she had fully claimed the remaining lands.

Dragon eels are terrifying and temperamental creatures that lurk in the ocean, ramming passing ships to smash holes in them, and feasting on the crew as the vessel sinks. Some captains negotiate passage with the creatures, paying a hefty sum of gold; but just as often, the dragon eel reneges on the deal, and the ship is never seen again, at least intact. Dragon eels measure around 20 feet long and weigh about 1,000 pounds.
It finally happened. During last night’s Ravenloft D&D game, I put on my best Rob Cantor impersonation and unleashed Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf on my players.
I have accomplished all I ever wished to as a Dungeon Master.
I opened the encounter almost verbatim to the song:
“You’re walking in the Svalich woods. There’s no one around, And you suspect the sun is dead. Out of the corner of your eye you spot him, Shia Labeouf!”
The players were stunned silent.
“He’s following you About 30 feet back. He gets down on all fours and breaks into a sprint. He’s gaining on you. And you can see there’s blood on his face! My god, there’s blood everywhere!
Wait, wait…. Is that seriously it? How their clothes go?
that genuinely is it
yeah hey whats up bout to put some fucking giant sheets on my body
lets bring back sheetwares
When you’re carding, spinning and weaving everything from scratch, using the big squares exactly as they come off the loom must seem like a fucking brilliant idea. 90% (or more) of pre-14th century clothing is made purely on squares (and sometimes triangles cut from squares).
How did they get the fabric so fine it draped like that? Was that something medieval europe forgot? Or do I just have a completely misguided image of historical clothing?
The way they could get away with pinking and slashing doublets in the 16th century was partially because the fabrics were so tightly woven that you could simply cut a line on the bias and nothing would fray.
Modern fabric machining sucks ass in terms of giving us any kind of quality like the kind human beings produced prior to the Industrial Revolution.
*yells about textile history*
Reblogging because it’s fascinating.
The Celts made very fine clothing as well. They invented plaid after all, and the same weaves that have been found at the La Tene/Halstatt salt mines in Austria were also found as far away as western China in the tombs of the Tarim mummies.
Can we talk about 18th century and regency era muslin as well because that shit is gorgeous. It’s so fine it’s more transparent than silk chiffon and oh the tiny hems you can make with it!! I have an 18th century neckerchief and the hem is about 2mm wide. Not kidding, 2mm!!! Because it didn’t fray like our stuff does now. All we can produce nowadays is a rough, scratchy, bullshit excuse for muslin and it’s horrid.
I love this because we’ve gotten so blind to what makes ‘good’ fabric now - machine lace? horrible scratchy shit mostly made from poly. Actual lace is handmade, lasts for fucking EVER and looks stunning.
Regency gowns fucking rocked in terms of fabric quality - we use muslin as a ‘throw away’ before sewing the real fabric, back then it WAS a real fabric and it was so finely made you wouldn’t even think it was the same stuff.
Hand hemming is still the best way to finish off anything, but harder than hell because of the shitty weave of modern fabrics.
Satin? Silks?!
Pah. Yes, fabric is cheaper, more affordable and varied than before, but it is an area where QUALITY was sacrificed for QUANTITY.
(I don’t want to seem like I’m shitting on how great we have it now for clothes and martials or anything, because YAY!! but also, I’d love to get my mits on a bolt of real Muslin)
archaeologists recently found some Bronze Age fabric woven on site and preserved in marsh in England. it’s fine to die for. they were exporting it and trading into Asia.
